GIS Support & Development
Halifax Port Authority, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
Background
The Halifax Port Authority is a not-for-profit Crown Corporation of the Government of Canada. They are responsible for all federally-owned waterfront properties on Halifax Harbour in Nova Scotia. Eastcan and our parent company, Thompson Conn Ltd., have provided the authority with GIS and field surveying support for the past 5 years.
The project is conducted as a standing offer with new tasks assigned on an as-needed basis.,
Project Workflow
The project includes a wide array of field and office support, surveying asset locations and loading the field data into the client’s ESRI based spatial model. All field work is conducted by our parent who supply Eastcan’s GIS group with the spatially accurate information. The assets are coded as per the client specifications.
In addition to building the spatial model Eastcan is also tasked with the installation of an SQL-server, ArcServer software and the development of customized web applications using Adobe Flex software. The web applications focus on building and infrastructure management allowing the authority to inventory and track their various assets in a number of spatial locations. These include tracking of containers and cargo as well as monitoring of Halifax’s cruise ship terminals, recording the location of each, in-port liner.
